Fallen Soldiers: RIP DJ Megatron

Known for his Television hosting & upbeat radio Personality, DJ Megatron was killed early this Sunday morning, March 27th in New York City.

While the information has not been publicly released, insiders say that the DJ was killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest at an event in Staten Island.

DJNorie.blogspot.com will keep u updated on the status of the case and information reguarding the shooting. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and co-workers.

Go Go Gadget: IPhone's "Last Night Never Happened" App!

Had a little too much to drankkkkkkk last night?

Did you have so much fun listening to @DJNorie's Anything Goes party on the radio from 8-10PM on Sunday that you started popping bottles in your kitchen? 

Well have no fear, because just released to the IPhone App Store in the newest and hottest App on the market, "Last Night Never Happened". 

Developed by a man with an obvious purpose, or one who ha a bitchy drunk girlfriend who puts all his secrets on facebook every time she hits the bottle, This app deletes all the posts and tweets you put up from a certain time. Go back in time and erase all the shit talking, picture evidence that you posted in your extreme state of drunkness. 

So lets see...You guys started fighting at 8pm, she was taking shots by 9, so she was posting by 9:15.. (what ever happened to good old drunk dialing? I mean really!) By using the "Last Night never happened" App, she can set the app for 9pm when the drinking started, and have it automatically delete all postings from then until now.

Norie's News: Fallen Soldiers- Rapper Nate Dogg Dead at Age 41

It is a sad day in Hip-Hop. Four time Grammy nominee Rapper Nate Dogg, who's real name was Nathaniel Hale, was announced dead by The Long Beach Press Telegram, after receiving the announcement from his family members. While the rapper has been battling numerous health issues, and has previously suffered two strokes in the past two years, one having left him partially paralyzed, no exact cause of death was released.

Here was a video of Warren G discussing Nate Dogg's health issues last November, after Nate Dogg's last serious health battle, and some of Nate Dogg's notable videos.

Rest In Peace Nate Dogg, gone but not forgotten. Our condolences to your loved ones, they are in our prayers.

REWIND: DJ Norie & Vybz Kartel (Interview Part 2)

For all of the fans that wanted to listen to the DJ Norie Vybz Kartel interview from last night, this video contains the second part of the interview, where Kartel discussed the whole issue of his "bleaching"..  Kartel had previously released a statement to VIBE magazine regarding the issue, where he stated the following:

“I’m my own man, and as such I do my own thing. When black women stop straightening their hair and wearing wigs and weaves, when white women stop getting lip and butt injections and implants, when bald men stop getting hair transplants, and when people stop getting nose jobs and cosmetic surgery then I’ll stop using the ‘cakesoap’ and we’ll all live naturally ever after. Just when I thought there was going to be no ghetto programming to watch with chicken wings and a beer,  VH1 dropped off this amazing little tid bit in my inbox.

Funny enough is I happen to be present at a part of the taping for the series, the segment when Olivia had a listening session for her new music at Veranda in NYC a few months ago. Imagine my surprise when then she opened her mouth to sing and I didn't want to vomit!

Way any, this series follows all the girls in life that nobody cares about ( with the exception of Jim Jones wife ), but somehow, when you pack all their weave, drama and jump-off like tactics into one hour, it actually makes for TV I can bare. Was Ciara not available at the time of taping? A few of her well choreographed body rolls and this show would be ready for the Emmy's! We can only dream.. *sigh*

Foxy Brown announced Friday that she is in the studio recording a double-album, to be the 1st ever released by a female hip-hop artist, called I can't afford Black Roses.

"I'm in the studio every night, slaving.  It's going to be really big. One side is going to be straight Hip Hop and hardcore records, and a couple big radio joints, and then the other side is Dancehall-Rock."

 ummm... yeah. While we here at www.DJNorie.blogspot.com are very happy that you have taken your inspiration from all things Yaki (let the weave strengthen you), not sure how I feel about a double sided album. After your last master piece that went triple WOOD , 

maybe a double sided album isn't for you. That is unless you pull a Ciara and offer a free album with chicken, 

 and donate a portion of the proceeds to  all the people formerly  injured by your damn shinanagans...

Norie's News: Pimp Down- Buju Banton Convicted of Drug Charges

As per information swarming around the Internet, and BBM blasts if you, like I, have forgotten to delete all the Jamaican's off your BBM (note to self, get to that tomorrow), you would know that one of our favorite Reggae artists of all time, Buju Banton was convicted yesterday on Drug charges.

Guess he will be performing "Driver A" at a local fed pen near you?

Why can't the U.S. get on a plan like Jamaica had with Ja Cure and have these inmates working for their keep? Ja Cure literally had to sing for his supper- Imagine if we could have a concert series for all our jailed Artists. We could call it the Cell Block All-Stars! Staring Buju Banton, TI, and we could have all the PO officers who are really aspiring rappers open up, with a special intro by Lil Wayne, who just missed the line up by a few months, but could easily get caught on one of his many probation violations and join the line up. If we expand our criteria to rehab and probation, we can have the whole industry on this damn bill...

 Way any, back to the sentence at hand.. heard there were more crying Jamaicans in the court room then the time all the hair stores on the island ran out of the shiny weave and smedium skinny jeans at the same time..    All jokes aside, we tolerate love us some Jamaicans, and Buju is a legend that will always be in our prayers. #FREEBUJU! "A federal jury deliberated for 11 hours during Buju Banton's retrial for his role in setting up a sale of five kilos of cocaine to an undercover officer in a Miami warehouse during an undercover operation by the DEA.

The singer was caught on videotape testing cocaine in a Sarasota warehouse in December of 2008, although he wasn't present during the actual drug deal, which took place two-days later. 

According to the Associated Press, Buju, 37, was found guilty of three of the four charges and now faces at least 15 years in prison, when he is sentenced. 

The popular singer, who's album Before the Dawn just won a Grammy Award, is already planning an appeal of the conviction. 

His lawyer, David Markus, claims that the reggae singer was a big talker who wasn't involved in the drug deal. 

Ironically, the confidential informant who audiotaped and videotaped Buju during the alleged drug deal, earned a $50,000 commission for his role in the undercover sting conducted by the DEA.

Buju is expected to make bond until his sentencing date, which has not been scheduled."

Norie's News: Haiti through my eyes

Okay, so I know that you have all been wondering why I haven't managed to publicly comment on the crisis that is currently taking the world by storm in Haiti. I took the week to take the time to gain all the information on the 7.0 sesmic earthquake (on an 8.0 scale) that destroyed most of Haiti, and residue of the tremors was felt as far as the island of Jamaica.

As with alot of people, I was a bit skeptical of which charity to donate to and what would be the best method of donation. As I was going through the internet, I managed to find a mini-documentary on Yele Haiti, the organization founded by Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean in an effort to raise awareness and give a helping hand to the people of Haiti. Please watch and understand. While everyone is currently in mourning, I also added a video of "We are the world". From destruction comes rebuilding...

No mama no! Say it aint so... Teddy Pendergrass is dead? Where will T-Pain secretly get his lyrics from now?? Do you know how many babies where born due to love TKO? man... and to think I was gonna have him sing "When somebody loves you back" as I diddy bopped down the isle at my future wedding... *smh*



Teddy Pendergrass, R&B Soul Singer, Dies at 59

Teddy Pendergrass, the Philadelphia soul singer whose husky, potent baritone was one definition of R&B seduction in the 1970s but whose career was transformed in 1982 when he was severely paralyzed in an auto accident, died on Wednesday night in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He was 59.

His death was confirmed by his publicist, Lisa Barbaris, who said Mr. Pendergrass had been treated for colon cancer since August at Bryn Mawr Hospital and had suffered many complications.



As the lead singer for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, and in a solo career in which he sold millions of albums, Mr. Pendergrass brought gospel dynamics to bedroom vows in songs like “If You Don’t Know Me by Now,” “The Love I Lost,” “Close the Door,” “Turn Off the Lights” and “Love T.K.O.”

His performances rose from breathy whispers to gutsy exhortations, making his voice the deeper, more aggressive counterpart to the styles of 1970s soul men like Al Green and Marvin Gaye. It was the flagship sound for Philadelphia International Records, riding lush strings and big-band disco from the producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

Philadelphia International’s songwriters provided Mr. Pendergrass with material that was forthright but never crude, promising nothing more explicit than a back rub.

“Teddy had that big, booming baritone voice, but he was a tender man,” Mr. Huff said in a telephone interview Thursday. “He was very lovable. You could hear it in his music.”



By the late ’70s, Mr. Pendergrass’s concerts — some of them presented for women only — drew screaming, ecstatic crowds. Women would fling teddy bears and lingerie onstage. Mr. Gamble called Mr. Pendergrass “the black Elvis.”

Mr. Pendergrass was a hitmaker for a decade. Then, on March 18, 1982, on a winding road in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Mr. Pendergrass’s Rolls-Royce smashed into a highway divider and a tree, a result of either brake failure or a faulty electric system that had disabled the power steering. Spinal cord injuries left him paralyzed from the chest down at 31.

But after extensive physical therapy he resumed his recording career and had Top 10 rhythm and blues hits and gold albums into the ’90s. His voice was less forceful but still recognizable, as he substituted nuance for lung power. Though he could no longer tour, a worldwide television audience saw him sing at the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia in 1985, and he returned occasionally to the stage in the 1990s and 2000s.

Theodore DeReese Pendergrass Jr. was born on March 26, 1950, in Kingstree, S.C., and moved to Philadelphia as an infant with his mother, Ida Pendergrass. She survives him, along with his wife, Joan; his children, Teddy Pendergrass II, Trisha Pendergrass and La Donna Pendergrass; and four grandchildren.

Growing up in North Philadelphia, Mr. Pendergrass was steeped in both gospel and soul music. He was 2 years old when he first stood on a chair to sing at a storefront Holiness church, and with his mother’s encouragement he often attended church seven days a week. But he was also drawn to the Uptown Theater, which presented top performers on the R&B circuit. When he was a teenager his mother gave him a set of drums, and he taught himself to play them.

Mr. Pendergrass dropped out of high school to become a musician, working with R&B and doo-wop groups. In 1969 he joined Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, a vocal group that had been working in Philadelphia since the mid-1950s.

He soon moved from the drums to lead vocals. Mr. Huff said he had noticed Mr. Pendergrass while preparing for a Blue Notes recording session, when Mr. Pendergrass was still the band’s drummer. “We was just messing around in the rehearsal room,” Mr. Huff said. “I heard that voice, and my ears perked up. That rich baritone voice was just ringing through.”

Signed to Philadelphia International, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes had a string of hits in the ’70s with Mr. Pendergrass singing lead, including “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” in 1972, “The Love I Lost” in 1973 and “Bad Luck” and “Wake Up Everybody,” both in 1975. But there was increasing friction between Mr. Pendergrass and Mr. Melvin, and in 1975 Mr. Pendergrass left the group.

 I know that whole girl on girl scene is a man's fantasy and all, but we all seen this in the strip club a time or two, (or in your own bedroom if you get it poppin).. Survey says, no thanks. These chicks are giving me hood rat fever and the first still makes me feel dirty.. and not in a good way.

Then again these are just stills, maybe the video will be better. Yeah, sure.
